Egypt reiterates support for Palestine, and calls for resuming talks

Cairo, Mar 8 (Prensa Latina) The Egyptian Government has ratified its support to the Palestinian people in their struggle for independence while repeatedly calling to resume peace talks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this country stated on Wednesday.

The institution pointed out in a statement that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated Cairo’s stance during a meeting in this capital with Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Shoukry emphasized his country’s support for UNRWA in providing basic and essential services to Palestinian refugees as it helps improve security and stability in the region, the text stated.

The document stressed that we also urge donor States to provide the required funding for that agency.

On the same issue, Lazzarini stressed the importance of coordinating and consulting with Egypt on the activities of UNRWA, which is facing problems with the lack of funding due to a drop in donations.
