Burkina Faso Gov’t imposes measures amid fight against extremists

burkina-faso-traore
Ouagadougou, Mar 7 (Prensa Latina) Authorities in Burkina Faso reported on Tuesday the establishment of an evening curfew in the northern region and two other provinces to facilitate the actions of the armed forces in the fight against extremist groups.

Kouilga Albert Zongo, secretary general of the governorate of the northern region, declared this Tuesday that this measure was established from March 3 to March 31, from 22:00 hours, local time, to 5:00 hours, local time.

In this period, the movement of people, motor vehicles, tricycles (three-wheeled vehicles), and bicycles is prohibited in the northern region and the Koulpelogo and Bam provinces.

As part of its operations in the east and central north region of Burkina Faso, the national army announced on Monday that dozens of elements considered terrorists in those areas had been killed.

Burkina Faso, where a military junta rules, suffers from insecurity following the proliferation since 2015 of armed extremist groups, including the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims, affiliated with the Al-Qaeda network.
