According to local reports, this week a series of meetings will complete the investigation to secure the incentives approved in response to the demands of teachers who are returning to some schools in a limited way, after the failure of the offers made by the head of the sector, Abbas Halabi.
The return of the teachers will only happen in official centers, in the midst of a strong division, after the call of the contracted teachers to hold a “sit-in” in front of the Ministry of Education building, the Al-Joumhouria newspaper reported.
Another journal, the Al-Akhbar daily, informed that the administrative bodies of the educational associations decided to stop the strike during morning education and keep it in force in the evenings (for Syrian students).
According to the newspaper, the teachers saw what was announced by the Ministry as a mirage and prepare a protest similar to the ones that occurred on January 9th, which led to the closure of classes in formal education for two months.
Given this scenario, the United Nations Children’s Fund warned about the persistent damage to learning and to the mental and physical well-being and safety of children as a consequence of the interruption of the school year in the country.
Since the beginning of the year, employees and teachers in Lebanon have been demanding better salaries, transportation allowances and social benefits, in view of the worsening of the already existing economic and financial collapse.
