The Foreign Ministry instructed the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations Organization in New York, to respond to the content of two letters addressed by “Tel Aviv” delegate to the president of the Security Council, aimed at disturbing the Lebanese relationship with UNIFIL and the UN.
Lebanese diplomacy indicated in a statement that Israel seeks to explode the positive climate and the state of relative stability created by the understanding reached the 27th of October last,on the maritime borders, under the mediation of the United States and the supervision of the ONU.
The Ministry reassured that the two main parties directly involved in the Al-Aquibiyah incident, Ireland and the United Nations, previously expressed their appreciation for the cooperation of the Lebanese authorities.
Both UNIFIL and the Irish government thanked the Lebanese authorities for prompt judicial action to investigate the incident of December 14th, which caused the death of soldier Sean Rooney.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry also warned, that the Israeli accusations in the two letters are aimed at covering up its repeated and daily air, land and sea violations. It also pointed out Israel’s interest in diverting attention from its gaps in the urban sprawl of the town of Ghajar on the outskirts of the town of Al-Mari, attempting to take it over by force after it was occupied in 2006.
