Zakharova reminded that earlier the Ministry of Defense drew the attention on the fact that Kiev is preparing to accuse Russia of inflicting indiscriminate attacks against dangerous facilities which could cause the leakage of radioactive substances and by so contaminating the environment.
“It cannot but cause concern that these events are taking place in the vicinity of Transnistria, around which the Kiev regime deliberately increases tension”, the diplomat stressed.
Zakharova also noted that the Odessa region ports involved in the grain deal could be used to deliver radioactive materials to Ukraine.
“We must also not forget that the mentioned Ukrainian ports are involved in the grain deal. This raises the question involuntarily: are these ports and the humanitarian corridor in general being used for some other purpose?” she stated.
According to available information, containers holding radioactive substances with markings in English were delivered to the port of Chernomorsk on February 16th, bypassing customs inspection by one of the European states, Zakharova explained.
“On February 19th, similar containers containing the Californium-252 radioactive substance, which reportedly is actively used to check the integrity of reactors at nuclear power plants, were delivered to the Odessa port on one of the dry cargo ships.
She also stated that as a result of a journalistic investigation, it was established that the supplier of Californium-252 is the US company Frontier Technology Corp., which manufactures containers for radioactive isotopes, especially sources of neutron radiation.
According to Zakharova, Russia warns the Kiev regime against rash actions. “We call on the relevant international organizations to pay close attention to this information” she highlighted.
