The CTP is the party in government under the hand of outgoing Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
His most dangerous electoral opponent Atiku Abubakar, an aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), got 6,984,520 votes, far from Tinubu’s 8,794,726 votes.
The third favorite of the 18 presidential aspirants is Peter Obi, a candidate of the Labor Party (PL), who received a satisfactory result of 6,101,533 votes. He could be a newcomer in Nigerian politics.
Tinubu’s proclamation as a winner, however, did not go smoothly.
Since vote counting started, delegates of the PDP denounced inconsistencies in transmitting voting data through the Internet and shady dealings in several polling stations.
Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, assured that the elections took place according to legality and the lapses registered in the counting of ballots were scarce.
