China’s capital city adopts water saving regulations

Beijing, Mar 1 (Prensa Latina) The capital of China has put into force today, a regulation with more precise measures to promote water saving, a very rare resource in its territory and that mostly comes thanks to the south-north transfer.

The Beijing municipal government explained that the regulation reinforces the legal framework with sanctions and fines of up to 14,000 dollars against those who use water reserves illegally.

Going forward, authorities will increase vigilance over the unauthorized use of water for decorative purposes and to extinguish fires.

Beijing is home for more than 21 million people and, like other parts of northern China, historically suffers from severe droughts.

Much of the water distributed in the capital comes from the south and arrives via water transfer, which supplied the citty with 8.4 million cubic meters of water between 2014 and 2022
