Prensa Latina reviews annual work and plans future projects

prensa-latina
Havana, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) After a year of hard work and several challenges, Prensa Latina News Agency on Tuesday reviewed last year's achievements and planned its future amid major difficulties.

At the Morro Cabaña Military Historic Park, workers from the news agency reviewed the best ways to take better advantage of collective strengths and expand the reach and influence of Prensa Latina’s information products and services abroad.

Prensa Latina President Luis Enrique Gonzalez pointed out that in 2023, the main goal is to remain the first Cuban medium on the Internet, while working to improve the effectiveness of Cuba’s message on social networks.

Prensa Latina’s work in 2022 was marked by a complex international situation, with a bigger impact of the economic blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which has particular consequences on the operation of correspondents in 35 countries, due to the obstacles posed by bank transfers, among other matters.

That period was also a major point in recovery after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, and more efforts to maintain the news agency’s products and services despite financial difficulties, including paper for its 15 publications, transportation, and technological support.

In this scenario, training and professional improvement were carried out with special attention to those who joined the medium, technological changes were introduced, such as new software to access the newscasts of international agencies and a cloud of its own to locate multimedia contents, Kertin and PLCloud, respectively.

Other achievements were an increase in video materials, their better positioning and visualization; the consolidation of the in-depth journalism scanner section; and the new PL portal, with the introduction of micro sites such as Qatar 2022 and the Havana Film Festival.

Similarly, Prensa Latina improved the Development Coverage section and the number of Prensa Latina’s followers on social networks increased.

Some of this year’s challenges are continuing to work on the quality of news, with more immediacy, better performance on social networks and more attractive headlines.

Increasing the sources of funding and guaranteeing the stability of human capital and its technical and professional improvement are other fundamental lines of action in 2023.
