According to the source, the call was made after an intervention before the chamber of the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hanafy El-Gebaly, who visited Syria over the weekend as a gesture of solidarity due to the recent earthquakes that devastated parts of Syria and Türkiye.
The Foreign Minister of Egypt Sameh Shoukry also arrived in Damascus, where he was received by President Bashar al-Assad.
The visits to Syria by El-Gabaly and Shoukry are the first held by high-ranking Egyptian officials since the start of the conflict.
The deputy Mostafa Bakri affirmed that Syria must recover its seat in the pan-Arab organization.
“These visits should send a message to the Arab rulers that the Arab peoples can no longer tolerate Syria’s isolation and should return to the organization as soon as possible,” lawmaker Yossri El-Moghazi stated.
During a regional summit held last November in Algiers, Algeria, the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, also defended the return and participation of Damascus to the Arab League.
