According to the Ministry’s official statement, 16,113 travelers are Haitians, 11,070 are Ecuadorians, and 7,875 are Venezuelans. The remaining migrants are from other nationalities.
The MINSEG also detailed that at present, 1,128 migrants are stranded in the temporary Migratory Reception Center in Los Planes de Gualaca in Chiriquí, 625 in Lajas Blancas, and 228 in Metetí, the latter in Darién province.
Samira Gozaine, director of the National Migration Service (SNM) in this country, affirmed that “the humanitarian corridor has been a decision of the Panamanian authorities in coordination with international organizations on human rights.”
For the moment, the move of migrants was suspended until the Transit and Land Transportation Authority (ATTT, in Spanish) reviews the documentation of the people who died in the bus crashes on February 15 and 25.
