The spokesman responded to suggestions by US President Joe Biden on possible agreements regarding Ukraine that could include a provision so that Crimea and parts of other territories would eventually come under Kiev’s control.
After the February 2014 coup in Ukraine, the Crimean and Sevastopol authorities decided to hold a referendum on reuniting with Russia.
More than 80 percent of those eligible to vote attended the March 16 referendum that year and most of the residents in Crimea and Sebastopol chose for reuniting with Russia. On March 18, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an agreement on Crimea and Sevastopol joining the Russian Federation.
Ukraine and several other countries refuse to recognize Crimea as part of Russia.
