CPC General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping is chairing the meeting, which will run until Tuesday, February 28.
Participants are reviewing the report on the work done by the Political Bureau since Xi was reelected in October 2022.
Xi leads the CPC Politburo Standing Committee and named leaders Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi to stand alongside him. Their promotion to that body means their potential appointment to high government posts when the National People’s Congress (Parliament) meets in early March.
The agenda of the party session includes discussing a draft of the CPC reform and state institutions and reviewing the list of candidates proposed to join the Parliament.
Since 2012, Xi Jinping has been the General Secretary of the CPC, which has more than 96.7 million members from all sectors of the country’s socioeconomic life and 4.9 million grassroots organizations.
