China emphasized its position in a 12-item document, in which it claims talks as the only viable solution to the crisis, opposes cold war mentality, demands the end of hostilities, and respect to the sovereignty of all states.
The text urged those involved to remain rational and act with restraint, refrain from aggravating tensions, and prevent the situation from getting out of control.
“All sides should support Russia and Ukraine to work in the same direction, resume direct talks as soon as possible, call for a gradual de-escalation of the situation, and reach a comprehensive ceasefire,” the official text stated.
China deemed it essential to promote and channel any measures to alleviate the humanitarian crisis while calling on Moscow and Kiev not to attack civic buildings, protect women, children, and other victims of the conflict, and respect the fundamental rights of war prisoners.
China also rejects the attacks on peaceful nuclear power plants or other facilities, the use or threat of weapons with such technology and calls on all parties to prevent an outbreak and proliferation of tensions in this regard.
