According to information available, said the Ministry, Ukranian troops, disguised with uniforms of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, are expecting to use as pretext an alleged offensive by the Russian Troops from the eastern bank of the Dnieper River so as to carry out their planned provocation.
The Ministry of Defense high command also explained that they are closely monitoring the situation on the Ukrainian border with Transnistria and that they are prepared to respond to any changes in the situation.
The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) emerged in 1991 during the breakup of the Soviet Union, when the inhabitants of the east bank of the Dnieper River decided to become independent, fearing that Moldova would join Romania.
The territory has a population of just over half a million, mostly of Russian and Ukrainian descent, and is in fact an unrecognized state outside of Moldova’s jurisdiction.
