Fenocin also demanded the departure of Guillermo Lasso from his position as President of the Republic.
“We have decided to terminate those famous dialogue follow-up tables, because we are tired of sitting around without results,” declared Gary Espinoza, president of Fenocin.
However, the peasant organization warned they remain in permanent mobilization and await a pronouncement from the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) to take new actions.
In this sense, the Conaie denounced that until today there is no progress in the agreements reached with the Government after the strike of June 2022.
Of the 218 agreements, the Executive only records follow-up documentation for 110 issues, warned the Conaie.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, as of February 16, 48 agreements had been fulfilled, 153 were in the compliance phase, nine were late, six required coordination with other State institutions, and two were under observation.
The Conaie also announced it will hold a meeting tomorrow Friday to define actions in the face of the political crisis facing the country and the future of the dialogue with the Government.
In this sense, Zenaida Yasacama, vice president of that Ecuadorian indigenous movement, assured that, after tomorrow’s meeting, new mobilizations are not ruled out due to the breach of agreements by the National Government. “There is no will from the Government to solve the problems that are going through at the national level -she warned- not only with the indigenous sector, but for all the citizens who work and earn a dollar a day to buy bread,” said Yasacama.
On June 13, 2022, the Conaie began a series of mobilizations in a large part of the national territory against neoliberal economic measures and awaiting responses to a 10-point agenda proposed to the Executive since 2021.
Conaie was joined by other social organizations such as peasants, women’s collectives, university students, and workers’ unions.
Local media outlets speculate that among the actions that Conaie could take tomorrow, Friday, would be the call for new mobilizations to demand compliance with the agreements with the Government of Guillermo Lasso.
