Lebanon’s interim prime minister thanks UN support (+Photo)

Beirut, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) The interim Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, restated his gratitude to the United Nations Organization and its institutions for their continued support to Lebanon amidst the worsening economic collapse in the country.

During his speech at the launch of the Joint Committee for the Implementation of the UN Framework for Action in Lebanon 2023-2025, the head of the Executive branch made wishes for a quick recovery from the crisis in order to regain Lebanon’s balanced presence in the political world map.

Mikati highlighted the efforts of the Humanitarian Coordinator in Beirut, Imran Riza, and donors in serving public interests and guaranteeing the rights of residents in search of comprehensive social protection systems and safe spaces for the most marginalized groups.

The official recognized the limited capacities of the State to ensure a large part of the needs of the Lebanese people and indicated that there is no sustainable development without political stability.

The head of the cabinet renewed the call to all leaders, officials and interested parties to end the obstruction and political accusations and elect a new president for the Republic.

At the end of April 2022, Lebanon and the UN signed the Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development until December 2025 with a focus on the people, prosperity and peace.

The implementation of the framework advocates for improved, resilient and competitive productive sectors so as to provide opportunities for generations and inclusive livelihoods.

According to UN entities, around two million people in Lebanon currently require urgent assistance in facing problems as access to food and other basic needs.
