Skerrit pointed out that intraregional transportation is an ongoing discussion due to the current difficulties and the high cost of moving within one’s own geographic area.
In this regard, he called for greater collaboration from the entities of the sector with a presence in the Caribbean in order to facilitate the mobility of people.
During the 44th Conference of the Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) held last week in the Bahamas, the Prime Minister of Dominica said that attending that meeting is an example of the disconnection between the member countries of the integrationist bloc.
“Several delegations had to transit through the city of Miami before flying to our destination, the Bahamas,” he added.
The information medium recalled this Wednesday that among the objectives of the Community’s transport policy is the organization of efficient, reliable and affordable services in all member nations, and the promotion of cooperative agreements for the provision of services.
Caricom argues that reliable connectivity, whether by air or by sea, is also a key element in the quest for Caribbean food security and requires an urgent solution.
