The investment will be aimed at improving the sections of the railway between the capital and Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Vinh, Vinh and Nha Trang, and Nha Trang and Saigon, as well as the stations in the north of the country and the Duong railway bridge, said the Ministry of Transport.
The disbursement for the improvement of the railway system in the area of the Khe Net Pass, in the Quang Binh province, will be made by South Korea’s Official Development Assistance.
The investments also seek to guarantee traffic safety, improve the quality of railway infrastructure and its capacity, thereby, creating favorable conditions for its effective exploitation.
According to the railway system development plan for 2021-2030, with a vision on 2050, approved in October 2021, Vietnam seeks to build nine new rail lines with a total length of 2,362 kilometers by 2030.
In addition, the seven existing lines, with a total length of 2,440 kilometers, will be updated.
It is estimated that the total capital required for the improvement of the system and building new lines will amount to about 10.5 billion dollars.
