Lebanese prime minister talks with Türkiye president

Najib-Mikati-abordo-con-el-presidente-de-Turkiye-Recep-Tayyip-Erdogan
Beirut, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon's acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati discussed with Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about the impact of the devastating earthquakes that hit the southeastern region of that country two weeks ago.

In a phone conversation, the Turkish president offered his condolences to the Lebanese victims of the earthquakes and thanked Lebanon for its support in rescue operations.

Mikati also offered condolences to Erdogan for those killed in the earthquakes and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, the press office of the head of the Lebanese Government reported.

Members of the Army Engineering Regiment, the Civil Defense, and the Lebanese Red Cross provided their services in rescue actions and comprehensive field surveys at the site of the earthquakes.

On Sunday, Türkiye announced the cessation of efforts to search for survivors in all areas hit by the February 6 earthquakes, except the most damaged states of Kahramanmaras and Hatay.

So far, the death toll surpassed 41,000 while aftershocks continue, already amounting to more than 6,000 in the Turkish-Syrian border region.

The death toll and injured are expected to increase as the search continues in the most damaged states.
