According to the latest report by the Undersecretary of the Interior Manuel Monsalve, the fires devoured 429,000 ha, destroyed 1987 houses and left over 7000 people homeless.
The three conditions for the propagation of fire will remain this week: high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds, Monsalve said.
Although the emergency is ongoing, Monsalve considers that it is better contained and far from what had happened last February 4th, when thousands of hectares were in flames.
The official called on the population to avoid risk behaviour and mentioned that two persons were detained for carrying out agricultural activities which generate fires.
Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Spain and other countries sent specialists to support Chilean firefighters.
