Covid-19 death toll surged in relation to the previous seven days as 279 people passed away, though new infection toll dropped compared with nearly 31,000 cases reported in the previous period.
Last week, Health Ministry conducted as many as 536,80,000 tests, so positivity rate climbed to 5.3%, slightly lower than the 5.7% confirmed in February 10´s report.
Overall infection toll since the beginning of the pandemic in Italy has jumped to 25,572,919, equivalent to nearly half population. Death toll has already reached 187,850.
According to a WHO´s recent study, Italy has reported 1,393 Covid-19 deaths from January 16 and February 12, 2023, making it Europe´s second country with highest death toll during that period, preceded only by the United Kingdom (2,269 deaths).
