The attack occurred in Bukima, and two people were wounded, according to Faustin Brazza, spokesman for the Banyali Tchabi leadership, a self-defense group in several villages in the area.
Brazza stated that the insurgent actions caused an exodus of the population.
Official media reported that members of the self-styled Cooperative for the Development of Congo, an armed faction composed of members of the Lendu ethnic group, on Sunday claimed responsibility for killing more than 20 people in a village in the northeast Ituri province.
The Democratic Republic of Congo launched a nationwide voters’ registration in the western region in December and in the center and the southwest in late January.
