In a statement, UNESCO reported that the forum responds to UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres´ call to action ahead of different challenges including misinformation and the denial of scientific facts, which is – in his view – an existential risk to humankind.
“We face one of the most complex and decisive challenges of our time. We will face it together, defining common principles based on human rights, in particular freedom of speech,” stressed UNESCO’s Director General Audrey Azoulay.
According to UNESCO, the event is aimed at addressing common guidelines to fight off negative use of digital platforms.
The conference will be a perfect setting for different actors to share ideas and experiences.
