Lebanon’s Hezbollah to send aid to Syria´s quake-hit Latakia

AYUDA-HIZBULAH-500x300
Beirut, Feb 12 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon's powerful Shiite movement Hezbollah on Sunday sent a convoy of 23 trucks carrying food and medical aid to Syria´s quake-stricken province of Latakia, a stronghold of the group´s allies.

Hashem Safieddine, senior Hezbollah official, told reporters solidarity with the Syrian people and announced further donations for Aleppo and other quake-stricken regions.

Safieddine stressed Lebanon will always be by Syria´s side in difficult times; and condemned the West´s false slogans under the pretext of defending human rights.

Following the tragedy, Hezbollah expressed its solidarity with the Syrian and Turkish peoples, epicenters of the deadly earthquake last Monday, and called on governments and international organizations to provide further aid in all possible fields.

In this regard, Hezbollah called to reinforce efforts to rescue people trapped under the rubble, assist the injured people, recover the victims and to shelter the homeless.

Lebanon opened its airport and maritime facilities for companies and agencies to guarantee aid reception (tariff free trade) for Syria. In addition, army and Red Cross teams strengthened rescue operations and search for survivors.
