Trinidad and Tobago government rules out dealing with criminal gangs

Fitzgerald-Hinds
Port of Spain, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Security in Trinidad and Tobago never before held conversations nor has currently dealt with reputed, suspected, or known criminal gang chiefs, Minister Fitzgerald Hinds stated.

Responding to a question posed by Naparima MP Rodney Charles in the House of Representatives, the authority ruled out negotiations in an attempt to mediate a pact by using state contracts.

“It is not the policy of the Government or Trinidad and Tobago; it has not happened,” Hinds stated and affirmed that the current administration was aware of the crime situation.

The minister particularized before lawmakers on severe violent crime, driven mainly by gang activity.

In 2022, Trinidad and Tobago recorded a new crime wave with a consequent spike in murders, injuries, shootings, and other violent crimes.
