INE authorities said that the investigation will be carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and other institutions, and will seek information on households characteristics, ethnic groups, and difficulties in daily life.
According to INE director Eugenio Sosa, the composition of households, education, market and labor informality will also be investigated.
The official explained that some 22,000 minors and parents will be interviewed as part of the survey, and the study will focus on some areas in which children work in the country, such as in coffee farms and shrimp companies.
“The international commitment is to up root child labor and, above all, the worst forms of work, because in workplaces, children are subjected to over-exploitation, abuse, violence and mistreatment of different kinds,” he said.
Sosa referred to the commitment of President Xiomara Castro to advance in the elimination of the problem, since it causes many children to skip school in order to attend work.
Studies on the subject show that more than 400,000 children between the ages of five and 17 work in Honduras, many of them exposed to dangerous jobs.
