Lula arrives in U.S. for a meeting at the White House with Joe Biden

Washington, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday arrived in Washington to meet at the White House on Friday with President Joe Biden.

“We´ve just arrived,” Lula tweeted after arriving in the United States and got off the plane accompanied by his wife Rosângela Silva and the rest of the official delegation including Fernando Haddad, Finance Minister; Marina Silva, Environment Minister; Anielle Franco, Racial Equality Minister; Jacques Wagner, leader of the government in the Senate; Celso Amorim, ambassador and advisor to the Presidency; as well as Márcio Elias Rosa, executive secretary of the Development, Industry, Commerce and Services Ministry.

The entire delegation was accommodated inside the so-called Blair House, used as a guest house for the U.S. ruler.

In addition to the meeting with Joe Biden, Lula will meet with Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders, one of the authors of the resolution in Congress so that the result of the election in Brazil would be immediately recognized, which was seen as an act in defense of democracy.

The CNN assured the expectation is that Lula will also debate on Brazil´s significance for democracy in the Americas.

In this regard, Lula would address attacks and looting to the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília on January 8, and how investigations on the terrorist acts are advancing.

US diplomatic sources indicated that Joe Biden, on the other hand, intends to discuss with Lula the issues and eventual solutions for racial and social issues in the two countries.

Both presidents will also seek solutions to find joint avenues to champion democracy and will discuss concrete actions to contain climate change and preserve environment.

The Brazilian president says he also intends to discuss ways to contain dissemination of fake news in the digital world.

Any progress in this field will depend heavily on the participation of the United States, since the world’s largest social networks operate from this country.
