Pakistan’s accession to BRICS is consistent with national goals

Brics-300x168
Islamabad, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) Pakistan's accession to the BRICS countries, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, may be consistent with the country's goals and positions, TV BRICS reported on Wednesday.

The bloc’s founding principles are close to Pakistan and can join the forum, Muhammad Taimur Fahad Khan, a research associate at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, told Russia’s TASS.

Khan noted that although there is no official announcement about Islamabad joining BRICS, “Pakistan would be ready to join the bloc as part of the BRICS+ mechanism.”

The truth is that the values the five-member countries promote (peace, security, development, inclusiveness, and cooperation) are also points of reference for the Islamic Republic, which is why the expert looks favorably at the possibility of joining the forum.

Pakistan sees the economic and trade benefits of joining the BRICS group and endorses their translation to other emerging and developing nations.

The BRICS emerged on the international scene in 2006 and included Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

South Africa joined the bloc in 2011 and assumed the group’s chairmanship on January 1, 2023.
