Problems in printing official documents forced to recount votes in six provinces of the country (Zamora Chinchipe, Morona Santiago, Napo, Cañar, Loja, and Santa Elena), the National Electoral Council (CNE) reported.
Given this situation, social sectors expressed concern about the possibility of altering those results, especially those of the referendum promoted by the Executive.
So far, with more than 98 percent of the records counted, the No vote seems to be irreversible in all questions and is a setback for the government of Guillermo Lasso and the right wing.
More than 5,000 provincial and municipal positions, as well as seven seats of the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control, were also in dispute.
Representatives of the Citizen Revolution (RC) Movement, aligned to former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017) are the virtual winners of 61 mayor’s offices, among them Quito, Guayaquil, Santo Domingo, and Esmeraldas.
