Caracas, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, received today his Iranian counterpart, Hosein Amir Abdollahian, who arrived in this capital on an official visit to strengthen strategic ties between the two countries.

Pleased to receive the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran in our Yellow House, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy wrote on his Twitter account.

Gil reiterated the commitment and willingness of the Bolivarian Republic to continue deepening “the different topics of interest of our strategic alliance.”

The Persian foreign minister arrived in Venezuela at dawn this Friday and was received at the international airport of Maiquetía, La Guaira state, by the Minister of Transportation of the South American nation, Ramón Velázquez.

The Vice Minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tatiana Pugh, and the Iranian ambassador in Caracas, Hojjatolah Soltani, also came to welcome him to the air terminal.

The Venezuelan Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Relations reported that during his stay here, the Persian foreign minister will maintain a productive agenda with high-level authorities of the South American nation to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

During the day, Amir Abdollahian also held a work meeting with the sector vice president of Economy, Tareck El Aissami, reported Venezolana de Televisión.

The Iranian official is developing a work agenda in Caracas aimed at further strengthening the strategic alliances between the two countries, in the context of the US blockade and sanctions policy.

Both States deepened their political, economic and commercial relations last June with the official visit of President Nicolás Maduro to Tehran, where he signed with his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, a strategic cooperation plan for 20 years, applied in different areas.

Raisi advocates the strengthening of ties between Iran and Latin America, as a way to thwart the plots of US imperialism against independent countries, according to Hispantv television.

The Bolivarian Republic and Iran signed agreements in the energy, scientific, oil, defense, cultural, economic and food sectors. This is the first visit of the Iranian foreign minister to Latin America since he took office and was preceded by his arrival on Wednesday in Managua, Nicaragua, where he fulfilled an agenda that included meetings with high authorities such as President Daniel Ortega.

He also signed a memorandum of understanding with his Nicaraguan counterpart, Denis Moncada, on the cooperation mechanism and bilateral political consultations.
