During a meeting with workers and executives of Meliá Cayo Coco Hotel, Taboada urged to use production and consumption models for a much more sustainable tourism development.
Taboada stressed this is a socioeconomic system that will help produce goods and provide services while reducing the consumption of raw materials, water and energy sources as well as boosting recycling of materials into new products.
She also called for plastic use reduction given their negative impact on environment and also to be in line with global tourism trends.
In this regard, Niurka Hernández, Meliá Cayo Coco Hotel´s Assistant Manager, stated that among major purposes is to wipe out single-use plastic articles, though it is rather difficult nowadays given the shortage of substitute materials.
