“Another attempt at crossing the Dnieper in the Kherson region to gain a foothold on the river bank under Russian control was repelled. The enemy did not achieve its goals,” Vladimir Vasilenko, spokesman for the acting governor of the Kherson region, stressed.
According to the official, since mid-October 2022, Russian authorities have organized the transfer of civilians to the safe areas due to the danger of constant Ukrainian shelling and flood risks in case of an attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam.
Vasilenko pointed out that about 115,000 people were evacuated. In early November, the Russian command decided to take defensive positions with the deployment of more than 30,000 military personnel and about 5,000 pieces of weapons and equipment.
The Kherson region became a Russian territory after the referendum held in late September 2022, but Ukraine does not recognize its legitimacy and continues shelling the area.
