In addition to Madrid, where an event chaired by Cuban Ambassador to Spain Marcelino Medina took place, rallies and floral wreaths took place in Pontevedra, Barcelona, Malaga, Tenerife, and Valencia on January 28, the date of Marti’s birthday.
The tributes to the Apostle of Cuba’s Independence were led by associations of the patriotic Cuban emigration and groups of the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC).
In Madrid, the Cuban Embassy in Spain, in the presence of diplomats from Venezuela and Nicaragua, organized a ceremony, attended by the Cuban Consuls General in Andalusia, Barcelona, the Canary Islands, Madrid, and Santiago de Compostela, members of solidarity groups, and Cuban residents here.
In his speech, Ambassador Marcelino Medina highlighted Marti’s life and work, and took the opportunity to underscore the 5th International Conference for the World’s Balance, held in Havana last week.
Medina, representatives of Venezuela and Nicaragua, and workers at the Cuban Embassy laid a wreath at the monument created by Cuban sculptor Jose Ramon Villa Soberon, a gift by Commander Fidel Castro to Madrid, and inaugurated by Armando Hart in October 1986.
