Czech president will maintain support for Ukraine

Prague, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) The newly elected president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, said on Sunday that he plans to call up the Ukrainian head of State, Volodymyr Zelensky, to assure him of his country's continued support.

Pavel, who will take office in mid-March, told Radio Prague International that he had already discussed with his Slovakian counterpart, Zuzana Caputova, a possible joint trip to Kiev.

The two neighboring Central European nations have actively supported Ukraine. “And we want President Zelensky to know that we will continue to do so,” Pavel said.

As for his first domestic decisions, he promised to reduce the support team for the head of State and the means made available to him at the expense of taxpayers.

Interviewed on Sunday by Czech Television, Pavel noted that there is no reason for the president to be accompanied by a large entourage on his trips abroad and to be given “red carpet” treatment at every stopover.
