The forementioned conditions, originated from the infection caused by arbovirus and transmitted by arthropod vectors such as mosquitoes, mainly affect children under ten years of age and people aged 65 and older, with underlying pathologies, the specialist from the Department of Neurology told HOY newspaper.
Chikungunya presents an acute phase (a second sub-acute and a third chronic), which can cause several neurological complications, including encephalopathy and encephalitis, with alterations of consciousness, convulsions, and hallucinations, the doctor said.
The disease, whose cases and suspects are proliferating in Paraguay, especially in Asunción and Central department, can also leave long-term sequels.
