“We will maintain cooperation, focused on solving all children’s problems in the country,” said the agency’s newly appointed representative in Ethiopia, Aboubakar Kampo.

The statement reviews the meeting he held with the head of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Atnafu, after handing over his credential letter.

Kampo expects to comply with “the fulfillment of Funds committed to Ethiopian children and their families, focusing strongly on the adoption of innovative practices, and guaranteeing their access to basic services.”

He also “highlighted the organization’s 70-year association with Ethiopia” and “praised all government efforts to stop the armed confrontation with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and establishing peace in the north of the country.”

On these regards, “Atnafu (…) thanked UNICEF for its assistance with development initiatives for women and children,” and emphasized the importance of maintaininga solid collaboration in order to improve the work done so far.

The new representative is a native of Mali, doctor by profession, and has over 20 years of experience in humanitarian efforts. He also held senior positions with the entity in several nations, including the Ivory Coast and Afghanistan.
