The Organization for the Liberation of the Levant (HTS, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham), formerly al-Nousra Front, recently escalated its incursions and attacked the vicinity of Sukelbieh and military positions using a UAV, the military reported as quoted by the national agency SANA. The attack caused material losses, with no victims reported.
According to the sources, the jihadists took advantage of the dense fog to launch their hostile action, as in previous attacks.
The Syrian Army responded to this aggression with intense shelling against the positions of the extremists in the vicinity of the towns of Al-Ankawi, Qalidin, Al-Qahera and Mansoura in the Al-Ghab region of the governorate of Hama.
Other terrorist positions were also attacked in the towns of Benin, Al-Fatira, Sfuhen and Maarat Al-Naasan, in the south and northeast of Idlib.
Following the recent steps to normalize relations between Syria and Türkiye, radical groups intensified their attacks in violation of the regime of de-escalation zones in force in Idlib, in order to disrupt this rapprochement.
The national army managed to free 56 percent of Idlib during operations in 2020, but the jihadists still control the rest, where they hold hundreds of thousands of civilians as human shields.
