According to RosCosmos, cosmonaut Dimitri Petelin stressed this is the first piece of work printed by Russian cosmonauts on the ISS, after several previous tests, and the print obtained will be installed in the Nauka laboratory module inside the station.
In June 2022, the 3D printer was sent to the ISS to carry out experiments on the Progress MS-20 spacecraft, and the first to test this device was cosmonaut Oleg Artemiev.
RosCosmos explained the idea is to test additive technologies to produce articles made of polymeric materials in weightless conditions.
It is expected that in the future, the use of these technologies will allow cosmonauts at stations in Earth orbit to create the necessary parts and tools without having to wait for them to be sent from Earth.
