Syrian villagers expel US military convoy

Damascus, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) Locals from northeast Syria intercepted a US column illegally present in Syrian territory, reported activists quoted by local media.

The incident took place in the town of Hamo, municipality of Qamishli, Hasakeh province, when dozens of citizens blocked the road before a caravan of four armored vehicles that tried to cross through their town.

A number of media outlets showed the residents throwing stones at the US soldiers, who, faced with the shouts of the outraged locals, had to withdraw and backtrack.

Washington has at least a dozen bases in Syria, mostly near the oil and gas fields in the northeastern Al-Jazeera region, mainly in Hasakeh, as well as one in Tanef near the Iraqi border to prevent any terrestrial communication between both countries.

Actions against Pentagon forces and their breakaway Syrian Democratic Forces militia are on the rise amid popular anger at their practices.

The Damascus government has repeatedly denounced this presence, calling it an invasion and asserting that the USA military’s actions in Syria are aimed at destabilizing Syria while plundering its wealth and encouraging terrorist activity.
