Palestine calls on the world to speak out against Israeli occupation

Ramallah, Jan 21 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to present its statements to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legality of the Israeli occupation and its impact on human rights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced in a statement that it received a letter from the ICJ secretary, Philippe Gautier, on the subject.

Gautier explained that the institution officially received Resolution 247/77 of the United Nations General Assembly issued on December 30th, which requests an advisory opinion from the Court on the nature of the Israeli occupation.

The initiative was approved by 87 votes in favor, 26 against and 53 abstentions, and asks the Court to rule on the conflict and to investigate discriminatory laws and Tel Aviv’s measures aimed at changing the demographic composition of East Jerusalem.

In response, Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government announced several measures against the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) for requesting and pushing for a vote in the UN General Assembly.

The PNA rejected the said actions and confirmed that it will continue the political, diplomatic and legal struggle to end the occupation. “The rights of the Palestinians are not negotiable,” PNA spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina stressed in a statement.
