Saint John, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Gaston Browne has comfortably won his St John's City West parliamentary seat during the general elections held in the country, local media reported on Thursday.

The ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labor Party (ABLP) obtained 1,295 votes against 621 for Alister Thomas of the United Progressive Party (UPP), the leading opponent, and Jamel Knight of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA).

The ABLP won two of the three seats in the constituency, according to preliminary figures released by the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC).

Browne, 55, aspires to become the first executive leader to win three consecutive general elections and consolidate his position in the next five-year term.

Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) candidate Trevor Walker also sought to preserve his seat as a legislator representing Barbuda against Knacyntar Nedd, a candidate of the governing force.

The citizens in Antigua and Barbuda were called to participate in the elections to renew the Senate and the House of Representatives.
