Uruguayan Congress summons ministers on tariffs and drought

Montevideo, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The increase in public utility rates and the measures to fight drought are issues that occupy Uruguay and its legislators on Wednesday.

That is why the Permanent Commission of Congress decided to summon Livestock Minister Fernando Mattos and Industry and Energy Minister Omar Paganini.

The call, proposed by the opposition Broad Front (Frente Amplio-FA), also received the votes of the legislators representing the government coalition.

In the case of Paganini, the issues the FA legislators concerned about are tariffs that have increased in telephone, water, and electricity services this year, besides the management of fuel prices and activities administere by public companies. The Uruguayan Bicameral Parliament is in recess, but the Permanent Commission has been working during this period.
