A dispatch from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Office assures that “both (plants) will have a generation capability of up to 500 megawatts,” but does not specify the value of the investment, where they will be located or how many citizens will benefit from the project, among other details.
After signing the agreement in Abu Dhabi, Ahmed declared that Ethiopia has unprecedented renewable energy resources.
“The global goal of net zero emissions offers an economic opportunity to harness our riches and ensure access to clean and affordable energy for our country and beyond,” he commented.
The Office noted that Abiy and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, witnessed the signing, before the return to Ethiopia of the delegation participating in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
