US and Canada impose restrictions on Russian diplomats

Moscow, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) The United States and Canada, alongside several European countries, have put obstacles for the Russian diplomatic missions to access bank accounts, insurance, and medical assistance, Deputy Foreign Minister Evgeny Ivanov said on Monday.

The diplomat added that the Governments of those nations many times push local companies to break medical assistance contracts for the Russian mission officials.

Ivanov noted that such Western actions sometimes force Russia to respond in kind, which often has an instructive effect.

He recalled the closure of several consulates and the expulsion of diplomatic mission staff.

At the same time, the losses of personnel suffered by the missions are not allowed to be compensated.

The minister said that as a result, the normal functioning of the Russian embassies and consulates abroad is significantly hampered.
