The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, which forced the military and the right-wing oligarchs to negotiate the compromise that ended hostilities and marked a new stage in the country’s history, will hold a remembrance ceremony at the Christ of Peace Monument in this capital.
The activity will include a pronouncement by the Legislative Assembly that changed the celebration of the achievement a year ago and now celebrates the Day of the Victims of the Armed Conflict, something that opposition forces considers as an attempt to ignore the importance of the treaty for the country’s political and social development.
This Sunday, civil society organizations and the population in general, commemorated the 31st anniversary of the signing of the Peace Treaty with a demonstration that began in Cuscatlán Park and ended in the Gerardo Barrios Civic Plaza, in San Salvador.
The day was not only for the signing of the Peace Accords, since several hundred participants condemned what they consider a setback in the country under the government of President Nayib Bukele.
