Without referring directly to the case,during a country-wide address on TV on Tuesday, the president defended himself against the alleged existence of a criminal structure by assuring that he is being attacked and stories are being made up against him because he “has reactivated the country’s economy.”

The La Posta media outlet revealed the so-called existence of a criminal structure that would be linked to the president through his brother-in-law, whom they called “The Great Godfather”.

At a request from the president of the National Assembly, the State General Attorney´s Office opened an investigation into the alleged deviation of resources in public companies.

The Andean parliamentarian Virgilio Hernández wondered why there have not yet been any raids, urgent actions or detention for investigative purposes of the accused in view of the serious accusation.

The legislator considered that this is the objective of the popular survey proposed by the Executive, which suggests, with its questions, to modify the performance of the supervisory authorities in order to have ‘control authorities that do not control’.
