TCU called to block Bolsonaro’s assets for insurrection in Brasilia

Brasilia, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian Deputy Prosecutor Lucas Rocha on Tuesday called for Minister Bruno Dantas, president of the Court of Auditors of the Union (TCU), to block Jair Bolsonaro's assets as well as suspended Brasilia Governor Ibaneis Rocha and former Security Secretary Anderson Torres -both Bolsonaro´s allies - to compensate for damages caused by radical followers.

With this request, Rochas wants to guarantee public compensation for damages caused by Bolsonaro’s followers who stormed the National Congress, the Federal Supreme Court and the Planalto Palace in Sunday’s coup action.

Rocha also requested to block assets “of others responsible, especially financiers of such illegal acts”.

In case the court identifies public agents´ direct or indirect involvement in the incident, they may be sentenced to compensation to the public coffers, fined and even disqualification from holding office for up to eight years.

Relevant authorities are still evaluating damages caused by Bolsonaro´s followers in the three public buildings.

According to experts, the attackers who called for military intervention and rejected President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva´s assumption, may be charged with crimes against democratic institutions, criminal association and damage to public property.
