Bomb threat on Moscow-Goa flight turns out to be a hoax

New Delhi, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) A charter flight from Moscow to Goa made an emergency landing at the Jamnagar airport in the Indian state of Gujarat on Monday night after a bomb threat was reported, the police said.

All 236 passengers and crew were evacuated and the plane was checked by local authorities, said Ashok Kumar Yadav, Inspector General of Rajkot and Jamnagar Range Police.

Teams from the National Security Guard, the police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad carried out a thorough search, Jamnagar district collector Saurabh Pardhi told reporters on Tuesday.

The passengers’ luggage was also checked and the flight received the go-ahead to take off and will depart for Goa after completing certain formalities, as the threat turned out to be false.

Security at Goa’s Dabolim airport, where the flight was scheduled to land, was tightened as a precaution, Police Inspector General Ashok Kumar Yadav told the Hindustan Times newspaper.

The aircraft of the Russian charter company Azur Air carried 244 persons on board of whom 236 were tourists.
