Meloni said in a statement, published on the official website of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, that “what is happening in Brazil cannot leave us indifferent.”
Meloni stated that the break-ins into the institutional compounds are “unacceptable and incompatible with any form of democratic dissent.”
“There is an urgent need for a return to normality and we express our solidarity with the Brazilian institutions,” she reaffirmed.
On Sunday, hundreds of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the Planalto Palace, the headquarters of the Brazilian Executive, and the premises of the Supreme People’s Court and Congress, which was considered part of an attempted coup in Brazil.
A few hours after these events, the authorities managed to regain control of the situation. So far, according to various sources, some 300 people linked to the acts of vandalism have been arrested, as investigations continue.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed that “whoever did this will be found and punished. Democracy guarantees the rights of free expression, but it also requires that institutions be respected. There are no precedents (of this) in the country’s history (…). That is why they must be punished (…) We will find out the financiers of those who have gone to Brasilia, and they will all pay with the force of law.”

Condena primera ministra de Italia acciones de golpistas en Brasil
Roma, 9 ene (Prensa Latina) La primera ministra de Italia, Giorgia Meloni, condenó los actos vandálicos perpetrados el domingo por golpistas en Brasil.
En un comunicado publicado en el sitio oficial de la Presidencia del Consejo de Ministros, la jefa de Gobierno expresó que ‘lo que está pasando en Brasil no puede dejarnos indiferentes’.
Meloni manifestó en ese mensaje que ‘las imágenes de la irrupción en los escenarios institucionales son inaceptables e incompatibles con cualquier forma de disidencia democrática’.
‘Urge un retorno a la normalidad y expresamos nuestra solidaridad con las instituciones brasileñas’, reafirmó.
El domingo cientos de extremistas partidarios del exmandatario Jair Bolsonaro asaltaron el Palacio del Planalto, sede del Ejecutivo brasileño, así como los locales del Tribunal Supremo Popular y del Congreso, una acción calificada como parte de una intentona golpista en Brasil.
Pocas horas después de esos hechos las autoridades lograron retomar el control de la situación y hasta el momento, según diversas fuentes, fueron arrestadas unas 300 personas vinculadas con los actos vandálicos, mientras continúan las investigaciones.
El presidente brasileño expresó que ‘quienquiera que haya hecho esto será encontrado y castigado. La democracia garantiza el derecho a la libre expresión, pero también exige que se respeten las instituciones. No hay precedentes (de esto) en la historia del país (…). Por eso deben ser castigados (…) Averiguaremos quiénes son los financiadores de los que han ido a Brasilia, y todos pagarán con la fuerza de la ley’.
