Biden arrived to the new Felipe Angeles International Airport in the State of Mexico where he arrived at nightfall on Sunday, taking advantage of a visit he made to El Paso, Texas, bordering Mexico. His wife Jill traveled alone and did so through Mexico City’s International Airport.
Shortly after López Obrador met in private with Biden, the bilateral meeting between the delegations of both nations was carried out.
The agenda is broad and will focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, the environment, competitiveness of the region, migration, development, health, and security, among others.
The bilateral summit will be more specific and may include the dispute over a decree issued by the López Obrador Government to gradually prohibit the use, acquisition, distribution, promotion, and import of genetically modified corn.
The US delegation includes secretaries of State Antony Blinken; of Security, Alejandro Mayorkas; of Commerce John E. Bryson, and Special Envoy for the Americas Christopher Dodd, among others. They will be reciprocated by their Mexican counterparts.
Once this first bilateral meeting concludes, said the foreign minister, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will arrive at the National Palace with his wife and his delegation today to participate in the evening in the protocol greeting to the presidents at an official dinner.
The two guest leaders will arrive at the Palace on Tuesday, January 10, shortly before noon for a family photo.
Later, the delegations will have a working lunch, and then the trilateral summit, which expects to end around 15:00 local time in Mexico City. Biden returns to the United States that day, the foreign minister explained.
